The young amazing violinist Karin Hellqvist listened to the premiere of Timeline and asked me if I had a piece for solo violin. I saw the possibility to summarize and develop the work with arpeggiation on harmonics that was done with Cut Sections. Time Freezes, Neptune's Field and Timeline. Karin tried things out and gave me feedback during the process and it was such a pleasure to compose The 5th String!

Karin will perform it again in Aberdeen Oct. 29 when Curious Chamber Players performs at the Sound Scotland Festival. Other perfomances: Aaron Packard from the Skogensemble, New York 2011.
