Visby is a medieval town on the island Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The Gotland Wind Quintet is a local professional ensemble who is collaborating with the Gotland School of Music Composition where I teach. They are often perfoming in front of small audiences. When I saw them perform at the Art Museum in Visby I realized that this is the ideal concert situation having the musicians surrounding the audience. Thus the main idea of this piece is spatial movements, quick ones in the beginning and slow ones in the end.

The piece was commissioned by the Gotlands Musikstiftelse. It was first performed by the Gotland Wind Quintet, Visby 5/10 2005.
